Small Dance (Movement Variations)
In my art, I bring together color, science, and lived experience to explore how individuals fit into larger systems. My background in mathematics introduced me to complex systems—phenomena where simple parts combine to create something entirely new. Think of neurons firing to create conscious thought, or the dynamics of an ecosystem: each individual element plays a role, yet together they form something far greater than themselves.
Small Dance is inspired by a series of dance-like walks in a park. “Small dance” refers to slightly varying one's usual movement patterns—taking larger steps or tiny steps, for example, or wiggling the fingers while walking. No one else needs to see the “dance,” but changing how I moved immediately changed my relationship to the park. It made me more present and more aware of the others there.
