Sunrise Celebrations
Sunrise Celebrations is part of my new Sunrise series, inspired by the power of sunrise and the particular experience of being outside as the day begins. One part of this exploration is an ongoing group of 35 × 30 cm paintings that respond to moments of connection at sunrise. My process begins with going outside at or around sunrise as often as possible—walking, dancing, gardening, listening, or simply breathing the morning air. When I do this almost every day, individual experiences begin to accumulate. Sometimes a tipping point is reached: I feel a deeper connection to what is happening around me, and a painting follows. Sunrise Celebrations grew out of a period when I took music outside with me in the morning and danced at sunrise.
